County Sports

The County Sports Night was recently held at Tregib Sports Facilities, Llandeilo. There was fierce competition throughout the evening between members of the County’s Young Farmers Clubs as they played Hockey, Football, Netball, Touch Rugby and Rounders.

In the Women’s Hockey 6 teams competed. After several very close games Llanfynydd YFC and Llandeilo YFC’s joint team came out on top. There were also exciting games on the football pitch where 6 teams fought each other in the Boys 5 a side football competition. At the end of the competition, Llanllwni YFC and St Clears YFC reached the final where St Clears YFC beat Llanllwni YFC 1-0.

The Mixed Netball competition took place in the Sports Hall with 7 teams competing. After strong matches in both groups, Penybont YFC and Capel Iwan YFC reached the final, with Penybont YFC snatching the victory in extra time with a score of 1-0.

It was great to see many of the County’s junior members taking part in the Mixed Rounders competition with 14 teams competing. Tywi Valley YFC and Cwmann YFC seen many competitive and exciting games to reach the final, with the Tywi Valley YFC coming out on top in the final game.

Junior members of the County also competed in the Mixed Touch Rugby competition, with Llannon YFC, Llanllwni YFC and an Office Team, a mixed team of different County Young Farmers clubs, competing. Llannon YFC won the competition after all the games.

Good luck to all the members who will be competing in the above competitions and representing the County at the Wales YFC Sports Day on the 16th of June in Aberystwyth.

The week following the County Sports Night the Women’s Touch Rugby and Rugby 7s were held at Carmarthen Quins Rugby Club playing fields.

There were 2 teams competing in the Womens Touch Rugby which where Dyffryn Cothi and St Clears. A competitive and high-quality game was played between the two, with Dyffryn Cothi winning the game.

In the Mens 7 a side Rugby, there were 5 teams competing – Mixed Llanfynydd YFC, Llangadog YFC and Llandeilo YFC, St Ishmaels YFC, Mixed Capel Iwan YFC and Cynwyl Elfed YFC, St Clears YFC and Mixed Llanllwni YFC and Cwmann YFC. At the end of the night, the Llanfynydd YFC, Llangadog YFC and Llandeilo YFC mixed team were victorious, being undefeated in all their games. Good luck to the members chosen to represent the County in the Mens 7 a side Rugby in the Royal Welsh Show.
