Junior & Senior Member of the year & Situations Vacant

Junior Member of the Year

The judges for this competition were Mrs Mair Jones and Mrs Eleri Jenkins.

Message from the judges:

Very high-quality competition. 14 applied and the 14 may have been given the title of junior member of the year for their excellent work during the year with their Club and in their communities.

Rhiannon Jones of Dyffryn Tywi YFC has been awarded the Carmarthenshire YFC Junior Member for the year 2019-20. Rhiannon is 17 years old – Year 13 at Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Bro Myrddin and is studying Welsh, Food and nutrition and Agriculture.

Rhiannon has been the Club Program secretary and now the club’s Minutes Secretary and a member of the County Youth Forum.

One of Rhiannon’s highlights was competing the rounders competition in Stafford. The club came fourth at the end of the day but more importantly made friends with other members of the movement across England and Wales. One of the most memorable experiences of the day was the interest other members took as Dyffryn Tywi YFC and County members and supporters spoke Welsh with one another. We saw the importance of speaking the language.

Rhiannon’s ambition outside the YFC is to pass her A-level exams and after that, the ambition is to be accepted into Aberystwyth University to study an Agricultural and Business course.

Traveling to New Zealand has also been a dream for Rhiannon for years to see the way of life there and the country’s agricultural system.

Senior Member of the Year

The judges for this competition were Mrs Christina Jenkins and Mrs Angharad Rees.

Message from the judges:

Although only two members competed in this competition, any one of them could have the title of senior member of the year. Both were very passionate about the Movement and both have done a fantastic job for their Clubs, for the County and its communities. They both had ideas of how to develop the Movement and hope they both follow these visions. Congratulations to both – you should be very proud.

Mared Evans of Penybont YFC has been awarded the Carmarthenshire YFC Senior Member for the year 2019-20. Mared is 25 years old and a Primary Teacher at Ysgol Bro Teifi.

Positions Mared has held at Club level – Minutes Secretary, Vice-Secretary, Secretary, Vice Chair, Chair, Press and Social Media Officer.

County level posts – County Deputy Ambassador, Carmarthenshire YFC Finance Committee Member, Representing Carmarthenshire on the Wales YFC Events and Marketing Committee.

Over the past year Mared has competed in the Wales YFC 2019 Public Speaking, County Rally, County Eisteddfod and Wales YFC Eisteddfod, County Quiz and County Sports Night.

Mared also coached the Llanllwni YFC under-21 team for the Welsh and English Public Speaking competition – with the Welsh under-21 team winning at County level and progressing to Wales YFC level.

She competed with the Penybont YFC under 26 team in Public Speaking in English and Welsh and was selected as the best chair to be a member of the Carmarthenshire team in Welsh and English for the National competition in March 2020.

Mared’s ambition outside the YFC is to finish renovating her first home and to live happily. Mared also hopes to give back to the community for all the experiences she has received by supporting the organizations / clubs she has been fortunate enough to be a part of. She owes a huge debt of gratitude to Aelwyd Hafodwenog and Dawnswyr Talog and, no doubt, to the young farmers’ organization and to Penybont YFC.
